As I posted a few months again…I’ve been working hard to get myself in shape for the summer flip flop, sun dress and tank top weather at the Frisco Athletic Center.  While I have mixed emotions about the place, mainly because I have to drag myself there a few times a week knowing that it’s going to be harder to get out of bed the next morning than it was the previous one….

But how cute is this?  I was finishing up my workout and getting ready to leave and I saw a flyer on the board for the 2nd Annual Aqua Egg Hunt at the Frisco Athletic Center.  Let me just say that I’m a holiday junkie…I don’t have any kids or nieces and nephews…and my house is still decked out in decorations for just able every holiday…Easter being no exception!  So, needless to say…I was really excited to rush home and make my phone calls to my friends with little kids and beg them to let me take them!!

The event takes places on Saturday, March 27th at the Frisco Athletic Center from 11 to noon and is open for children ages 3 to 10.  The Bunny will be filling the indoor pools with eggs stuffed with goodies and providing all the children with an all day swim pass.  Admission for the event is $12 per person.  Additional details on the event can be found at http://friscofun.org/aquatic/Pages/default.aspx

They love to watch her….STRUT!!

It’s time for the 2010 Strut Your Mutt event put on by the North Texas SPCA.  The event benefits the SPCA in our local Frisco community by helping abandoned or mistreated animals find caring, forever homes!

Mutts (and purebreds) come from all over North Texas come to participate in this event.  Large, medium, small and toy pups come in all shapes, sizes and colors with tongues hanging and tails wagging to join in the fun!!!  Sporting rhinestone or camo collars and doggie bling or sweaters all the mutts and owners spend the day enjoying the diverse company of all the other families.

The 5th Annual Strut Your Mutt 3K Walk/Fun Run to be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the SPCA of Texas Headquarters.  Complimentary valet parking will be provided.  The festivities are from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm with the walk beginning at 10:15 am.

Last year, almost 1,300 registered Mutt Strutters raised a record amount for animals at SPCA of Texas. The funds help us rescue and care for abused pets, provide low-cost clinic services, and find homes for the animals in our care. Because SPCA of Texas relies entirely on private donations, events like Strut Your Mutt are absolutely essential to making our community a better place for people and pets.

The event will have plenty of family-fun events for you to enjoy at the Bow-Wow Bazaar. The Bazaar includes vendor booths, activities for pets and kids, demonstrations and more! Mix 102.9 will be on site to provide music for the event and Rick O’Bryan from The Morning Mix will be our emcee.

So, whether you are a walker, a runner or just want to hang out at the finish line, we hope that you will join the rest of the DFW community in celebrating our common compassion for animals.

On March 29th there will be a gold tournament head at the TPC Golf Course at the Four Seasons Country Club.  This scramble is sure to be a great time with a wonderful cause benefiting the students of the Frisco ISD.  Donations make and money earned will be added to the Scholarship Fund to assist students in North Texas with the sometimes overwhelmingly large burden of college tuition.   With the deadline to register quickly approaching….it’s time to get in on the action!!

Arts in the Square…

I’m sure most of you that have read some of my posts have come to the conclusion that I do not have any children of my own…thus, I don’t really write about warm and fuzzy family events.  (I do much better with my favorite happy hour, place to get mani/pedi or weekend event).  Hmmm…it’s not that I don’t want kids of my own…I just jumped on the career, travel, go, go, go when I want to band wagon when I graduated high school, and eight years later and through a BA and MBA I still really like the wagon that I’m on and just not quite ready to make the switch.  However…while I still love my wagon…I’m starting to see how events and things would appeal to families and like to share them!

On March 6th and 7th the Square in Frisco will be transformed into an “outdoor gallery” with arts and entertainment for all ages!  While I’ve never attended this particular art event…I’ve been to others around the country and it truly is a good time for everyone.  Mom and/or Dad can enjoy the art (other than the finger paintings, macaroni necklaces and chalk drawn family portraits they so proudly display around the house and in the driveway) and the kids can snack on corn dogs and french fries while participating in short drawing classes and having their faces painted.

I’m looking forward to visiting this year’s event!!  Below is a brief description from the website regarding the quickly approaching Arts in the Square.  For more details, including vendors, volunteer opportunities and musical guests, please visit http://friscosquare.com/AITS.

“Feast your eyes on incredible art, sit and relax by the Simpson Plaza, listen to local bands and also treat yourself to the food and spirits available in a variety of award-winning restaurants on site. A stroll from the Frisco Library, the Heritage Village and Museum and the SciTech Museum. All of these attributes further set Frisco Square apart. Naturally, there is shopping, too! The Market Place at Frisco Square is home to almost 30 unique boutiques offering something for everyone” – quote from the Art in the Square organizers.

The Dentist!

I can still remember as a child the horror that I felt when my mother mentioned those two words…fast forward 20+ years to this morning. The Dentist…horror struck me again, only this time, not because I am still terrified to go (I would like to trick myself into believing that I have conquered that fear), but because I was taking my 2 year old son for the first time. Those of you who have a 2 year old child, know very well that taking that child into public can quickly lead into a Top 10 most embarrassing moment. One that leads you to feeling like the most inept parent on the face of this earth. Well, that is what I was expecting as we headed up to Twins (our dentist). I did all of the usual bribbing, you know, stickers, SpongeBob toothpaste, even candy (felt a little bad about this one after a good teeth cleaning, but hey what the heck) if the visit went well. We were off, and off to a good start, getting in the car, check; driving to the dentist, check; the waiting room, check; going to the chair, not quite a check. My little one was refusing to get in the chair, thing quick, pray, and figure out how to keep this quiet defiance from turning into a loud war…but then it happened, the hygenist at the office took over. She got my spunky little man into the chair, got him to give a big ol’ alligator smile, sparkled up those tiny little teeth, and even made an agreement with little man to let the Dr. count his teeth. It worked, crisis averted (this time at least). What a great day. After it was over, I let little man smudge up his pearly whites with a little Hersheys, and we both went home happy to live another day in the land of feeling like I might be a doing a good job raising these little ones up (at least for today).
