THE place for World Cup Soccer….

While, sadly, the US is no longer playing in the World Cup….soccer (football) fever has taken over the country and the world!  It’s seems like the Olympics is going to have a new contender for top spot and the world’s greatest sporting event.

Losing to Ghana in the round of 16 was devastating, but not a total loss for fans of the sport and good, hard to find draft beer.  Watching the game with friends allowed me to find out that there is a Londoneer in Frisco!  Wow, was I excited as I love, love, love the ones in Uptown and Addison.

First things first…..the atmosphere….it’s cool, dark and decorated much like may of the drinking establishments that I frequented when I spent a few weeks in London a few years ago.  I kind of get the feeling of being back….the décor is dusty and there’s even an obnoxious musty smell that reminds you of the pubs in London (whos smell comes from the fact most of them are a little below the street level and the buildings tend to be a few hundred years old).

The food….pretty traditional pub food that you would expect to find in any bar.  Sandwiches, salads and other staples.  If you are looking for something a little more “London,” try their bangers and chips….amazing!  And during soccer games, they serve brunch….which is for the most part pretty Americanized foods.  I’m still searching for a place where I can an English breakfast….eggs, bacon, tomato, black pudding, scones, sliced sausage….oh to die for!

Last…last but not least….the brews!  They serve up chilled pints of all our favorite American beers and many imported beers from the light to what can only be known as a black out stout, not for the weak at heart.  The prices are very reasonable….so don’t expect to pay $6/pint for some imported beer you’ve never heard of.  My suggestion, try the Carlsburg….it’s one of my favorites and is always a winner!

If you’re looking for a great place to watch the World Cup or just a place to grab a bite and a brew….the Londoneer Frisco is a great choice.  For more information, please visit http://londonerfrisco.com/.

There are plenty of great Orthopedic surgeons in Frisco, TX but since I have a client who is also an Orthopod I decide to make the drive over to the Las Colinas Medical Center to have my elbow checked out. My Client is Elite Orthopaedics of Las Colinas and Dr. Muncy and Dr. Stephens are phenomenal people and surgeons so I am confident they can help me.

My appointment is next week for an elbow that probably needs replacement. I am hoping they can do a partial replacement but at this point I will do whatever they tell me.  The elbow was broken when I was a small child and it never healed properly. The part of the socket that should look like a top of a golf tee (where the ball sits) is flat with no cup on the end. It causes the ball of my elbow joint to slip right out. I am sure that is not the technical description of what happens but all I know is it hurts and hurts bad.

I wish I had a digital image of my last elbow X-Ray to share so you could see how messed up my elbow really is.

While I am there I am hoping they can X-ray my knees so I can figure why I have intermittent pain in both knees, but that might have to wait for another visit. (with no insurance, I think the elbow replacement is going to be enough medical expense to get me through the year)

Big Kid Fun!!

There are a million things that I love to do during the summer in Frisco.  I could probably go on and on about what my favorite dish is on my favorite patio, and where I like to see live music and plop down to read a book or walk my pup.  But I won’t bore you with the zzzzzz details….try some of these places and things out for yourself and see what you think!

Again, these are in no particular order!

  1. Kenny’s Burger Joint….best burgers and beers hands down!
  2. Rough Riders Game – good for families and adults…cheap hotdogs.
  3. Palio’s Pizza Café…a patio would make this place heaven…but it’s BYOB
  4. TruFire Kitchen and Bar – just go for the patio….amazing!
  5. Stonebriar Spa – It’s pedicure season…enough said.
  6. Crawfish Boils
  7. Outdoor concert events at Dr. Pepper or Pizza Hut Park (Jimmy Buffet will be there this summer)
  8. Beat the heat with Word of Mouth productions
  9. Dave and Busters!
  10. Frisco Arts Festival
  11. Frisco Farmers Market
  12. BBQ out with friends…great selection of wines and meats at Market Street
  13. Join a WAKA team….summer season sign ups are going on now!
  14. Visit the city of Frisco’s Parks and Rec website to find parks close to you for evening strolls and running/biking paths
  15. Josephine’s Wine Bar

I love, love, love baseball and I’m so excited that it’s that time again!!  The sight of the crowd, the smell of the hotdogs, the taste of the cold draft beer, hearing the crack of the bat…a live baseball game is sensory overload at its finest!

The Rough Riders, who play in our own backyard at the Dr. Pepper Ball Park in Frisco are a great time for friends and families at a relatively inexpensive price.

On Saturday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. join the Mary Kay Foundation for Pink in the Park with the Frisco Rough Riders!!  The mission of the event is to raise awareness and money for a cure for cancers affecting women.  Tickets are still available and can be found by visit www.marykayfoundation.org.

Pink in the Park

Does the table kind count?

With the good weather looking like it’s here to stay (wishfully thinking over here), I believe every one I know is starting to sweat about getting back their “summer body.”  We all do it…wear big sweaters and jeans to hide the extra weight we all put on during the cold winter months.  I like to compare myself to a bear…I have to get fat or I won’t survive….while that’s not EXACTLY true, it’s what I like to tell myself!

Well apparently, tennis is supposed to be a grrreeat workout since it’s toning and great cardio.  Personally…tennis scares the crap out of me.  Let’s think about it for a minute… John McEnroe…yep…he was a little scary…and those Williams sisters, absolutely terrifying in so many ways….namely the notion they could crush my skull with their quad muscles!  In short, the game has always struck me as one with such uptight players, that not even smacking a ball with a racket at 200 miles per hour can ease the tension.  SCARY.

I have yet to agree to go, but there’s a place located on Legacy called Lakes Tennis Academy.  For the oh…not really steep price of $20/hour lesson (cost for non-members…the words “paying your dues” and “initiation” tend to render images of gang and girl scouts…hah!) you can learn the great game of tennis.  Even though the game scares me and the closest I’ve been to a tennis court is a game of beer pong in college and a game of flip-cup last weekend I’m still considering giving it a whirl since the weather is breaking are getting nice!

FORE!!!  Whoops…wrong sport!
